Sallie Gentry

Sallie H. Gentry, LMBT #9113

Sallie graduated from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Fine Arts and later studied massage therapy at The Baltimore School of Massage, graduating in 2000. Her professional training includes traditional Swedish, Deep Tissue and Myofascial Release Therapy. In addition, she has accrued nearly 600 hours of continuing education and enriches her therapeutic studies with an emphasis on Craniosacral Therapy.

Sallie’s proficiency addresses:

stress reduction and management

acute and chronic pain management

pregnancy and post-partum protocols

protocols for those with advanced medical conditions, such as cancer and -autoimmune disorders (with a focus on patients with fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome)

craniosacral therapy (particularly efficacious in addressing head and neck injuries)

whole food nutrition, weight management, digestive disorders, emotional aspects of eating

The process of becoming a massage therapist has connected Sallie’s passion for integrative healing, whole food nutrition, art, and spirituality. Sallie brings genuine compassion and envisions each session through a holistic lens.

In 2012, Sallie completed the Masters of Arts in Christian Studies (MACS) at Duke Divinity School, where she explored the intersection of spirituality, theology, creativity, and health.

In 2015 Sallie decided to pursue training to become a Interfaith Spiritual Director. Spiritual Direction is a kind of “spiritual companionship,” where the spiritual director listens attentively, creating a safe space to allow for the freedom of thoughts, fears and wonderings to flow. It’s a way to bounce feelings and thoughts off of a “neutral” companion – no strings attached. It is referred to as “spiritual” because these conversations often involve, or help to identify, the things that mean the most in our lives and empower us to make choices that really support our true self. People seek Spiritual Direction when they are processing a decision but feel a bit stuck; when life seems to be changing (such as a looming retirement or empty nest) and when relationships are changing (illness of a life partner, death, birth! weddings). Sometimes spiritual direction is sought as a “checking in” over time to ensure we are continuing on a healthy path we have committed to.

Additionally Sallie has completed the Duke Integrative Medicine course on Mindfulness Training for Professionals, studying Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction and supportive approaches to meditation and mindfulness practices that she can teach to clients and workshop participants.
